Swordfish
Swordfish peaks from July to September. During these months, they are most abundant in temperate waters and the meat is at its peak quality. Because swordfish are apex predators, sustainability depends heavily on the fishing method. Harpoon or hand-line caught swordfish are the most sustainable options, as they eliminate bycatch and prevent damage to other marine life. Avoid swordfish caught by pelagic longlines unless the fishery is specifically MSC-certified, as those methods can have high rates of accidental shark and turtle captures.
