Red Snapper

Red snapper peaks from July to September.

This fish is at its best during the warmer summer months when it is most abundant. In terms of sustainability, it is important to check the source, as some populations in the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic have faced overfishing. Choosing fish caught with vertical lines or hook-and-line gear is preferred, as these methods have lower bycatch rates and cause less damage to reef habitats than bottom trawling.
